Blog: 5 ways to rest not quit on your sobercurious journey

Hey everyone,

I hope you're enjoying the blossoming beauty of Spring as much as I am. As an alcohol-free coach, I've recently taken a break from social media, inspired by Banksy's wise words: "if you get tired, learn to rest not quit."

Stepping away has been refreshing. It's given me space to recharge and refocus on what truly matters, both personally and professionally. In the realm of This Naked Mind's Affective Liminal Psychology, every experience – or "data point" – is an opportunity for growth.

So, if you find yourself facing a data point on your sobercurious journey, here are 5 practical ways to rest, not quit:

1. **Be Kind to Yourself**: Remember, you're human. Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, especially when things get tough.  That includes Data Points.  The brain can respond instinctually - it's foundational science in Affective Liminal Psychology (The Science of the System of Self, which is basis for This Naked Mind Methodology), so don't beat yourself up #becausehuman.

2. **Find Mindful Activities**: Engage in activities that bring you peace and presence, whether it's going for a walk, practicing yoga, or pursuing a hobby.  Your wellbeing and feeling better (with the long term goal of feeling better too, not just short term gratification), should be your overall aim.  The journey can be long and winding. Give yourself some grace if you have to stop and catch your breath!

3. **Connect with Support**: Surround yourself with supportive communities, whether in-person or online. Having a support system can make all the difference.  My Heartspace Hub is a great resource for reinspiring you and supportive motivation if you like a quiet space to research or even our monthly meetup, or This Naked Mind Companion app is full of threads and events.  Why not venture to either or both!

4. **Set Boundaries**: Know your limits and be willing to say no to situations or activities that aren't serving your well-being.  Sometimes, social media can make you feel worse rather than better.  Sometimes it can be being in a particular setting.  Know your worth.  You are allowed to take a break.

5. **Journal**: Take time to really process the thoughts and feelings before you had your drink, and also if it was what you wanted. Reflecting on the after effects too can help. Seeing how it aligns with your Alive goal is a big part of the data mining and the choices that come next.

Remember, we all would love a straight, quick route, but often the trail is overgrown and messy, and we have to clear the path as we go.

If you haven't accessed my 15 Self Care Strategies download, please feel free!  It's available on it's own or with my other free resources in my Heartspace Hub, which has loads of other goodies and opportunities with zero demands.

Hope to see you there...

Taking the opportunity to rest and recharge is vital to allow us to embrace the energy of Spring, and to grow.

Remember, you're not alone on this journey.
